The location of the starter on Your 2002 Chevrolet Silverado is right under the front passenger side of the engine. You will see a bell cover housing that will need to be removed if You want to get to the starter. The purpose of the starter on Your vehicle is to provide a crank to the engine so that when You turn Your key to start, the engine starts. When the starter begins to go bad, You'll notice that You won't be able to turn on Your vehicle. You'll often hear a click when turning the ignition because there is no crank able to be delivered to Your engine.

The 2002 Chevy avalanche starter is located where the engine block is bolted to the transmission housing.
