The transmission control module on the 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche is known for a host of issues. If You're receiving a related OBD-II fault code, it's best to get the module replaced as soon as possible; continued driving can lead to excessive heat in the transmission, which will quickly cause damage, sometimes irreparable. I don't need to tell You, but a new transmission is much more expensive than a new control module -- which runs just north of $120. Since You're asking for the location, it's likely that You may be considering a replacement. You can find the module below the transmission cover, at the rear of the transmission case. It's an involved swap, but one that's well worth it to save the rest of Your Avalanche.
