I was told from the dealership that it's a sensor module to help detect how the airbags get deployed based on what the camera sees of the occupants. (2023 Ford Escape Hybrid)
No one can say same thing well I got black box in my 91s10 has porter nothing and i guess I will go out on a limb and tell what it is it’s gov bullshit they know what is what with you if they want to hello

Just a guess: It may be a sensor to control the auto high-beam/low-beam headlignts for night driving. Your head light switch can override the sensor after you start the car.
