The technical bulletin number I think You're referring to is 14882, and was released in March, 2015. The subject was Special Coverage Adjustment - Plugged PCV Orifice in Intake Manifold, and it applied to Chevrolet Equinoxes for model years 2010 througH2014. The "special coverage" refers to GM stating they'd address the condition in the bulletin for a period of 10 years or 120k miles, whichever happens first. So what was the issue The engine would "experience", as inanimate objects do, high oil consumption as well as a frozen and/or plugged positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) system when driving in cold weather. The result is the crankcase pressure may increase, leading to a rear crankshaft seal oil leak, and, if You continue driving, a damaged engine. Which is just the sort of thing drivers really like... Having their cars die in when they're driving in the dead of winter. If You've got one of these Equinoxes from the relevant model years, it's something You'll want to get addressed as soon as You can.
This just happened to me 2015 equinox frozen pcv leading to rear main seal replacement this is very common and should be recalled or covered by General Motors

My daughter's 2017 just died because of this issue. Chevy needs to step up to the plate and own it. Or, maybe a class action is necessary for Chevy to be accountable for a bad design..
Is there a recall for this PVC issue? We are going through this now on our 2013 chevy equinox its in the warranty shop now but I feel like the true issues won't get fixed correctly I've heard of there being an updated version of the valve cover is this correct? And would it fix the problem from happening again?

A main seal failure is triggered the recall in the 2011 chevy equinox pcv valve.
It just happened to my 2017 Equinox in Dec 2022. If the recall covered Equinox's up to 2015, is it possible to get the repairs for a 2017 covered by Chevy?

2010-2017 Equinox and Terrain 2.4L crankcase pressure problem could be solved by installing a CFM Performance Baffled Billet Valve Cover Breather System. Part # 1-2001-14-FB

My 2016 equinox did same thing without warning. Built up crankcase pressure and blew rear main seal. At least I caught it before real engine damage occurred. Looking for a shop now. GM needs to do recall. 128,000 miles. Bummer

My wife's 2017 just did this and now she out of a car . Step it up chevy and fixes the problem (recall it now !!! )
Do not buy a CFM breather cap, they admitted years ago that they never tested the cap in freezing temps on ECOTEC engines, and said it was not designed for that purpose, yet they are on here pushing the over priced cap. Stick with the GM vented cap.

My wife's 2017 Equinox has experienced this twice now... Last Jan, 2022; which we paid out of pocket and now in Feb 2023, happened again.... Local dealer is repairing it a second time under their warranty for free. They had given us 3 years or 60,000 kms - happened in a year with 27,000 kms. I am going to get a Oil filler cap with PCV valve built in so it will vent when needed.

This just happened to our 2017 Equinox on Christmas Day this past weekend, the dealership said it was a plugged PCV valve and it blew the engine.

These Problems have been going on for a long time and GM expects the consumer to pay for the fixes. Do not buy an Equinox because it will be costing you a ton of money at some point, and GM will not help the consumer out in any way
I have a 2014 Equinox and the PVC valve stopped up and the build up pressure blew out the rear seal. There was no warning at all. Just that it was using a lot of oil. Burford Chevrolet in Richmond, Kentucky is where I bought it 2 years ago. They are going to fix it. No warenty. I dont think I should have to pay over 2,000 to get it fixed. There should be some recall on it. I want to buy a new one but still owe 7,000 on this one. Can you help any on the parts and labor?? You can call me 606 481 4999. My husband and I are on a fixed income . Thank you.
