What is the chevy silverado frame recall about?

I have a 2011 Chevy Silverado and the frame is totally rusted and needs replaced are they any recourse for it

Bought my 2009 chevy 1500 10 months ago,im the 2nd owner , 3 months after buying it found that the frame and cross member was rusted completely through, took a month to fix it, now the bed is so rusted we have to keep it together with a tow strap n are told it's impossible to find a used bed for it, due to the recall , I can't afford a brand new bed, im jyst screwed, I dont know what the previous owner did about the recall but he didn't have it fixed,can't get another truck cuz it'll be years before I get the loan fir this truck paid off, is there anything I can do to get help??

Just purchased on 1/13 a 2008 GMC Sierra from Don Wood in Athens Ohio took it to my mechanic only to find out that the frame rotted out and I was told they checked the frame in their 50 point check .

Everyone needs to complain to the NHTSA and to the BBB. We know their frames s**k wind but until the Feds get enough complaints nothing will happen. My Silverado is a 2013 and I already have holes in the frame and my rear shocks have broken free. GM told me that there is nothing they can do. My warranty has expired. So please file complaints.

Apparently my 2008 is not part of the recall. BUT, I decided to sell because the underside of the truck has rusted away to nothing. Everything is rusted, frame, tow hitch structure, differential case, control arms, shocks, rocker panels, rear bumper. Its so bad I decided to sell, but when giving it the once over I found a rust crack in the frame and rust / separation of the leaf spring mount from the frame. ... What a shame. I would have been a nice vehicle. Now its just junk. I will never buy another GM truck (and I own two corvettes)!

Bought this truck two and a half years ago from original owner, always garaged. GM needs to step up and replace these frames like Toyota did years ago. I have a 2004 Silverado 3500. Frame has lots of rust, and flaking apart. Chevy installed defective injectors on this truck and failed to honor the factory warranty. I bought new Ram trucks for my business. Chevy was horrible to deal with for the defective injectors on the silverado. No more chevys for me. (Fool me once....)

My Silverado is rust to pieces theirs nothing that hasn’t rusted knocked the rust off after two days of wire brushing and chiseling. I fillied a 5 gallon bucket about 4 inches from the top with thick chunks of rusted metal there’s no sense in this BS .Chevy going to lose a lot of customers.

I bought a 2015 Silverado and I noticed rust within the first year. Told dealer and they applied the GM fix. That didn't last long. Last year the dealer said I had a rust through hole and it was unsafe to drive. GM refused to do anything because the warranty had expired. I had just put over $2,000 into it for tires, brakes, etc. I decided to get a good used frame installed, which cost over $10,000 installed. I will keep this truck until it won't run anymore, instead of buying a new one that cost $50,000. I only have 78,000 miles on it. I filed a complaint with the National Highway Safety and Transportaion Board. I encourage everyone to file a complaint and if they get enough, maybe they'll force GM to recall the frames. I talked to the lawyers that handled the toyota recall, and they said there hasn't been enough complaints made about the rusted frames.

2012 Silverado 160, 000 kms went in for inspection - BOTH frame rails from engine bay to box rotted out on bottom - would not pass inspection. Body has no rust , truck has been looked after - never owned a vehicle in 35 years where the frame rusted out before body !? WTF Chevy this is shameful, absolutely shameful. Have a 2012 Z71 crew cab . The frame has rotted out from under the cab back to above the axles on both sides . Pretty shitty considering the truck spent more than half of it's life down in Florida during the winter . My 2018 Silverado 1500 was purchased in February, 2019 and has less than 30,000 kms (18,642 miles) and in November, last year (2021) I took it back to the dealer due to the entire frame had surface rust, they subsequently painted it and now 10 months later it has 80% peeled off. GM and the dealer will not do anything about it as the warranty has expired and they say it is due to environmental conditions. Give me a break,10 months after it was painted and they tell me to make sure I undercoat it.

2013 Silverado 1500- at inspection station, my truck didn't pass because both sides of my frame were broke behind the cab under the bed. I still owe $17,000 on it. Highly irritated! 2011 GMC Sierra 125,000 still owe $10,000 on loan. I’m a full time single father of 3 on a limited income. Just was informed the frame is rusted and cracked on both sides. Welding shop said it’s $2,000 to weld up the frame but they couldn’t really guarantee anything. I was trying to sell the vehicle now I feel like I can’t. Not sure what to do at all. 2009 1500 Silverado 60000 km on it when bought $16000. Dealer said it was out having a crossmember repaired. It wasn't repaired! After buying I had it under coated and was told the rear crossmember was totally rusted out and also gas tank crossmember needs replacing. It won't pass inspection. My friend and I mostly him have done research and have contacted the NHTSA and have made a claim and starting to bring this problem to light. Just a side not a person I know did all the leg work and kept pushing and he got Toyota to give him a new frame and there was no recall originally on the frame.

There is nothing in the maintenance manual about frame maintenance in addition there were no alerts issued to owners regarding this grossly under specked frame. Gm silverado/sierra frames are made by Formet/Magna Industries in St. Thomas, Ontario. The got a 12 year contract in 2018. They wax coat the finished frames. Unless they decide to switch to e-coating, you Sierra/Silverado buyers are going to be stuck with the awful wax coating that doesn't hold up.
