Many users of Honda Accord vehicles equipped with a collision mitigation system have noticed some issues with the system not working as it should. The most troubling issue is when the brakes will activate early when they shouldn't or brake too hard in a situation that doesn't require it. This system was meant to save lives but the issues caused by it could lead to accidents themselves. If Your system is not working in a way that You feel it should You should take it in to Your local dealership for them to have a look at it.

There was actually a lawsuit concerning the collision mitigation system in some honda accords. In affected vehicles, the system would recognize an obstacle up ahead and brake hard when there was actually nothing there. Numerous complaints have been made about the vehicle doing this at fast highway speeds.

I have just purchased 2020 civic and experienced two malfunctions already. One was exactly what is described above: it brakes hard while there is no obstacles. Fortunately, there was no car behind me. The second one was ACC. There were cars stopped at the red light but was no car between mine and the ones stopped, and the distance was pretty far. My civic accelerates to reach the preset speed then tries to stop abruptly at high speed as I get closed to the stopped car. I was prepared to brake myself so no accident. Then the ACC malfunction LED lit up. I had to stop the car, turn off the engine, and on again after a while. The LED was still lit but after a while it went away. My advice: do not use ACC or lane departure in city driving. Only use them on highway. And as always do not trust the system blindly.
