The 2016 Toyota RAV4 will accept either DOT 3 or DOT 4 brake fluid, and there's little difference between the two types. DOT 4 has a higher operating temperature range, so for best performance, it's recommended that You go with that. However, most drivers won't see a bit of difference, and You'll save some money with DOT 3. Officially, Toyota recommends the use of Toyota genuine OEM brake fluid 00475-1BF03, but You can get away with any DOT 3 or DOT 4 fluid from a reputable brand. Just remember that You typically get what You pay for, so going with a "budget" fluid brand may cause You more headache in the long term. The few extra dollars now will save You down the road.

The manufacturer recommends genuine toyota fluid 00475-1bf03 brake fluid (12 oz). However, you can ask clerks at auto parts stores, such as autozone, for non-toyota brands.
