The 2009 Chevy Impala uses regular unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 87 or higher. Do not ever put E85 or diesel fuel into Your impala because it will destroy the fuel system and engine. IAlways recommend You buy the highest octane rating that You can afFord when You are at a gas station. The higher octane options burn cleaner and more complete than the lower octane versions. This will help the engine stay free from carbon buildup for longer. There are also fuels on the market that are listed as top tier. These usually have detergents in them that can help break down sludge and buildup in Your engine.

Depending if your 2009 Chevrolet Impala is flex fuel capable will depend on the fuel used. If you do not have the flex fuel badge on the trunk lid, then you use 85 octane regular unleaded gasoline or higher. If your 2009 Impala does have the flex fuel badge, then your vehicle can take E85 fuel in addition to 85 octane regular unleaded or higher gasoline.

Most of the 09 Impalas were set up to run on flex fuel you'll find very few that do not have the bright yellow fuel cap with the flex fuel insignia on it.
