Each configuration of the 2002 BMW 325i comes with the same 2.5L 6 cylinder engine. So, regardless of which trim level or options package You're running, You'll always use the same amount and type of oil. With a filter, You'll take 6.9 quarts of SAE 5W-30 full synthetic motor oil (European formulation is recommended). However, in its absence, You can substitute SAE 5W-40 or SAE 0W-40 over the short term. However, it's not recommended that You swap oil to one with a thicker consistency, especially for a long period of time. This can introduce friction to the engine, which causes premature wear and tear. Over time, this wear and tear can lead to an early engine failure, so it's recommended that You go with the recommended oil with the lowest weight, even if it costs a bit more per change.
