The 2017 Chevy Equinox uses SAE 5W-3o engine oil. Chevrolet recommends that when You do change it You use synthetic or a synthetic blend. There are two major types of oil on the market these days and they are synthetic and conventional. Synthetic offers greater protection for Your engine compared to conventional because it is engineered to lubricate better and last longer. This means You will be able to go 7,500 miles between oil changes compared to 3,500 to 5,000 with conventional. A blended oil is a mix of synthetic and conventional and is preferred when comparing it to just conventional. I recommend that You check Your oil at least once a month to make sure that it is free from signs of burning or debris.

The Equinox requires 5W30 synthetic blend oil. There are two different engines in the Equinox, a 3.6 L and a 2.4 L. Once you are sure of the engine type you can figure out how much oil you need. On a 2.4 L it takes 5 quarts and on a 3.6L it takes 6 quarts. It is very important to put the correct type and amount of oil in your engine to avoid premature wear on your engine.
