The recommended oil type that should be used on Your 2012 Subaru Forester is 0W-20 synthetic. If You can't find that type of oil then You are also allowed to use 5W-30 or 5W-40 conventional oil. If You're wondering what's so important about oil then I'll let You know. This precious fluid heps keep the health of Your engine and preserves it to last a long time. It also cleans the engine and provides friction to keep that motor running. I really recommend to keep checking that oil often to make sure You're keeping Your engine protected. A replacement engine is expensive, trust me on this one.

The recommended engine oil for the 2012 Subaru Forester varies for each trim level. The X, X Limited, X Premium and X Touring trim levels take a 0W-20 viscosity and synthetic oil. The XT Premium and XT Touring trim levels take a 5W-30 viscosity and synthetic oil.
