The 2014 GMC Sierra uses SAE 0W-20 with the 5.3L or 6.2L V8 engine or SAE 5W-30 with the 4.3L V6 or 6.0L V8 engine. GMC recommends that You use fully synthetic oil whenever You need to change it. There are two different types of oil that are on the market these days, synthetic and conventional. Synthetic is newer and is engineered to give You better wear performance and longer life than the older conventional oil option. This means that You will only need to change synthetic every 7,500 miles compared to 3,500 to 5,000 miles with conventional. You should inspect Your oil at least once a month to make sure that it is full and free from any signs of debris.

GMC recommends the smaller 4.3L engine to use Dexos 5W-30 motor oil, while the bigger 5.3L and 6.2L engines should take Dexos 0W-20 oil.
