Each configuration of the 2016 Ford Expedition comes with the same 3.5L V6 engine; therefore, regardless of whether You're running the XLT, Limited, King Ranch, or Platinum, You'll always take 6.0 quarts of SAE 5W-30 full synthetic motor oil. In its absence, You can use SAE 5W-40 over the short term, but this is not recommended if it's avoidable. That's because the higher the oil's weight, the thicker the oil; the first number (5) is the oil's viscosity at startup, and the second (30/40) is the oil's viscosity at operating temperature. Lower numbers are better, because they'll protect Your engine against friction, which can cause premature wear and tear. Therefore, it's sound advice to use the manufacturer's recommended oil type with the lowest numbers -- even if it costs You a few more dollars per oil change.

Wrong, Jasmine. The 2016 Expedition takes 5w-30.

The 2016 Ford Expedition can take any type of oil with viscosity of 5W-20. Ford recommends the Motorcraft brand which is a synthetic blend but any brand that meets Ford spec WSS-M2C929-A is acceptable.
