Most drivers have heard that a loose gas cap can cause the 2013 Dodge Ram 1500 check engine light to come on. This is the single most common reason for a lit-up check engine light! Take off and retighten Your cap. Then, take steps to reset Your light manually. If it comes right back on, Your loose gas cap wasnt the root problem. The check engine light in Your Ram 1500 has been designed as a general warning system. Although this makes it easy to catch a wide range of problems, it also means that finding the root problem can be difficult for non-experts. Start with seeing what the codes are.

If the check engine light on the 2013 ram 1500 is on then you may have a couple off different issues. Realistically it can come on anytime the ecu detects and error and stores a trouble code. To check the code you will need to hook the vehicle up to a obd scanner and read the code. The light can also come on when you are approaching a service milestone. Issue that cause it can include a loose gas cap, leaks in the vacuum seals, engine misfires, low oil pressure, bad spark plugs, or really anything else. The check engine light is a catch all to alert you that something is wrong, but that something can cover nearly anything on the vehicle. Often it is minor, but it should not be ignored.
