The recommended power steering fluid on the 2006 Ford Fusion is Mercon ATF. Some of the products You can use Valvoline Conventional Transmission Fluid Mercon or Valvoline MaxLife Full Synthetic Transmission Fluid Multi-Vehicle. The purpose of power steering fluid on Your vehicle is to keep Your steering smooth when You turn Your wheels. When You begin to notice that Your wheels feel a little stiff, it would be a good idea to check the level in the power steering reservoir. Sometimes when the level gets too low, it can be an indicator that there's a leak in the system. I would recommend to check the level every time You pop Your hood open.
