The 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe requires the use of 75W-90 gear oil in its rear differential. Contrast this to the front differential, which useS80W-90 -- these two are not interchangeable. It's also important to note that the '02 Tahoe's differentials should not take a gear oil with a limited slip additive, as it has the potential to cause leaks. It may seem like an insignificant difference, but the type of gear oil You choose is very important, along with the proper additives (if any). Failure to do so can increase friction and reduce efficiency in the system, which can lead to some pretty catastrophic failures of Your differentials. Therefore, it's always recommended that You pick up the recommended type of differential fluid, even if it costs a little more.

A dark thick fluid that is heavier than 80 weight is the type of rear differential fluid needed.
