The type of transfer case fluid the 2004 Chevy Silverado uses is Dexron IIiATF. The transmission is one of the most important parts of the vehicle. You will come into problems at some point. Hard shifts may arise and that is no good. There could be jerking. The gears can become stuck. You might experience shudders. Delayed shifts will cause acceleration issues. If the transmission fluid leaks, that needs to be fixed quickly. The transmission might slip. The transmission fluid needs to be replaced every 30,000 to 60,000 miles. Along with fluid changes, terrible sounds will come from the transmission. Old transmission fluid will be awful to the ear. A worn out torque converter will cause a headache.

DO NOT use ATF in the transfer case unless it is all wheel drive(stabiltrac). Four wheel drive models require (AUTOTRAC II).
