The type of transfer case fluid the 2008 Chevy Silverado uses is Dexron II. The transmission is one of the most critical parts of the vehicle. You will face issues at some point. You could experience shudders. Hard shifts could arise and that is not good. There may be jerking. The gears might become stuck. Delayed shifts can cause acceleration issues. The transmission may slip. If the transmission fluid leaks, that needs to be solved quickly. The transmission fluid needs to be replaced every 30,000 to 60,000 miles. Along with fluid changes, terrible sounds will come from the transmission. Old transmission fluid will be awful to the ear. A worn out torque converter will cause a headache.
