The transmission fluid used on the 2004 Ford Escape is Motorcraft Mercon ATF for both its 2L and 3L engines. The 2.0L engine requires 9 quarts of fluid. The 3.0L engine needs about 10.2 quarts of transmission fluid. The purpose of transmission fluid is to keep Your engine lubricated and to preserve the life of the transmission. Not only does it do those two things but it also keeps the parts inside of the transmission healthy and long lasting. I would recommend checking the transmission fluid at least once a week to make sure that the level does not get too low.
