The recommended automatic transmission fluid on the 2005 Chevy Cobalt is DEXRON®-IIiAutomatic Transmission Fluid. Some of the products that You can use are Valvoline Conventional Transmission Fluid Dexron/Mercon or Valvoline Full Synthetic Transmission Fluid Dexron VI. The manual transmission requires DEXRON®-IIiAutomatic Transmission Fluid as well. The purpose of transmission fluid is to keep the transmission working in great health. It preserves its condition by lubricating, regulating the temperature and by conditioning its gaskets so that they don't dry out. Please do not forget to check the level every once in a while. It's dangerous to drive around with low transmission fluid.
