There are quite a few things that could cause a ticking noise in the Honda CR-V engine. The main cause could be a low oil situation. If the oil level is too low, it will not be able to properly lubricate the internal moving parts of the engine. When this occurs, usually the ticking noise will come from the valve train. If operated like this for too long, the engine could be destroyed. Another potential cause of tick in the engine is a failing idler pulley. There are all bearings inside the pulley that will fail over time. As the belt runs over the pullies, if the bearings are bad, will make a ticking noise. There are other things that could cause ticking too, like something could be rubbing on the belt or cooling fan.

My 2017 CR-V Touring AWD starting ticking and continued to get worse. I took it to the dealer and they first checked the oil, which was at 30% per the maintenance minder. They changed the oil anyway and the ticking persisted. They finally figured out that the intake valve and exhaust valve each needed adjustment. The ticking has gone away. I've driven Honda's since 1991 and have had zero issues, but for some reason when I bought it I purchased the Honda extended warranty, and am so glad I did. The repair was no charge. I'm not impressed with the 1.5 turbo, and wouldn't have another.

If your honda crv's engine is making a ticking noise it could be due to a failed purge valve solenoid. Get is diagnosed at a dealer.
