Owners of a 2013 Dodge Ram 1500 may suddenly experience a drop in fuel economy accompanied by an illuminated "check engine" light. And when attempting to switch on "eco mode" the system will fail in this state. The error also disables remote start. A trip to a local dealer or repair shop will diagnose codes using an OBDII scanner. In incidents reported by consumers, the error lies in electrical pins and/or plugs that have become disengaged. Their lack of connection within the truck's modules will cause the main computer to store an operating error code, disabling the remote start and eco mode. Addressing the repair through module or pin replacement, will clear the code and enable the eco mode function.

My display shows a 4 under the odometer and no acceleration. When i turn off the engine it resets to normal but on the fwy speed it switches to 4 again and the rpms double. Now the check engine light is on

The check engine light on the 2013 ram 1500 is a catch all that is designed to alert you to an issue with the vehicle. It gets turned on when the computer in the vehicle detects an error on the vehicle and stores a trouble code. You can read that code with an obd scanner and this will tell you what the issues is. Common issues can include a loose gas cap, the engine misfiring, d***y spark plugs, vacuum leaks, low oil pressure, and nearly anything else. The light can also come on to remind you to get the vehicle serviced if you are nearing a mile stone. The check engine light is not often a major issue, but it should not be ignored either.
