Once You purchase a 2016 Chevrolet Sonic, You may find that eventually, Your check engine light will illuminate on Your dashboard. There are many reasons this could happen. It is possible that You are simply close to a service timeline, and Your car is letting You know it is time to have Your fluids, filters, and other components checked and refreshed. You also may have a simple problem, such as a gas cap that wasn't tightened properly after Your most recent fill up. There could possibly be a leak developing in Your car, most likely originating in the vacuum seal. You may have even noticed Your engine has begun to mIS Fires, which is a serious sign that something is wrong. You could be suffering from low levels of oil pressure. Maybe even Your spark plugs have gone back and need to be replaced.

If the check engine light on the 2016 Chevy sonic is on then you may have a couple off different issues. Realistically it can come on anytime the ecu detects and error and stores a trouble code. To check the code you will need to hook the vehicle up to a obd scanner and read the code. The light can also come on when you are approaching a service milestone. Issue that cause it can include a loose gas cap, leaks in the vacuum seals, engine misfires, low oil pressure, bad spark plugs, or really anything else. The check engine light is a catch all to alert you that something is wrong, but that something can cover nearly anything on the vehicle. Often it is minor, but it should not be ignored.

Two different service stations hooked it up and the printout says thermostat something (I forget), and wanted over $1,500 to fix it. Since I only drive less than 10 miles a week, I'm spending my time avoiding the COVID risk and praying to the auto gods to make that thing go away. It hasn't. There are no other signs of problems. I baby that car and have taken it in religiously for oil changes and checkovers. I say that there is nothing wrong with this car, a 2014 loaded Chevy Sonic, former Enterprise rental, with < 30K. Can anyone help a poor old lady make the right choice? Thanks. ❤️
