The 2000 Ford F-150 transmission type iS4-speed automatic or 5-speed manual. The transmission fluid needs to be replaced every 30,000 to 60,000 miles. Along with fluid changes, terrible sounds will come from the transmission. Old transmission fluid will be awful to the ear. A worn out torque converter will cause a headache. The transmission is one of the most critical parts of the vehicle. You will face issues at some point. If the transmission fluid leaks, that needs to be solved quickly. Delayed shifts can cause acceleration issues. The transmission may slip. You might experience shudders. Hard shifts may arise and that is no good. There could be jerking. The gears can become stuck.

There are 3 transmission choices. 5 speed manual and 2 automatics. Only the 4.2 and 4.6 had the manual option, the 5.4 never came with it. The two automatic transmission choices were the 4 speed 4r70w, or the heavy duty 4 speed 4r100. The 4r100 was only available behind the 5.4 where as the 4r70w was the base auto all across the board.
