The type of transmission fluid You use in the 2000 Volkswagen Jetta depends on whether You have an automatic or manual transmission. The manual transmission takes of synthetic 75 W 90 gear oil while the automatics use an ATF-F-TYPE fluid. The transmission fluid level should be checked at least once a month to make sure it is still within the operating range. Not enough fluid in the transmission can cause it to slip and will wear out the internal components a lot faster the needed. The fluid should be checked when the transmission is at normal operating temperatures. Put the car in neutral and leave the engine running and pull the dipstick from the tube and wipe it off with a clean cloth. Put the dipstick back into the tube make sure You go all the way down and then pull it back out. The fluid level should be between be high and low mark.
