The 2001 Dodge Dakota uses a 9007 headlight bulb for both the high and low beam. To replace the bulb, reach behind the headlight from inside the engine compartment and disconnect the electrical connection. Rotate the plastic lock ring counterclockwise about 1/4 of a turn and slide it off the back of the bulb, now grab the bulb and pull it straight out. There are notches on the bulb that fits slots in the headlight, they have to be aligned for the bulb to seat properly. Just remember that the catch for the electrical connector faces up. The lock ring has three slots that needs to be aligned, and then turn about a quarter turn clockwise and reconnect the wiring harness. You will need to remove the air duct on the passenger side to be able to reach the bulb.
