On all vehicles, it's pretty safe to assume that the crankshaft position sensor is located near the crankshaft. In the case of the 2001 Lexus IS300, You'll need to first find the water pump on the passenger's side of the vehicle. The crankshaft position sensor is located in front of this, and to the left of the alternator. If You're looking at the serpentine belt, You're in the right neighborhood. The most common reason You'll need to futz around this area is because You're getting fault code P0335 (or fault code P0345), which indicates a fault with the CPS. Luckily, the swap is not a particularly difficult one, and the part is rather reasonable -- it will run You between $80 and $170, depending on brand and Your IS300's configuration. Good luck!
