The life expectancy of the 2002 Ford Explorer depends on how well it is taken care of. If You follow the maintenance schedule then it can last anywhere froM200,000 to 300,000 miles or more. If You neglect it then You might be lucky to get even 100,000 miles out of it. The most important thing You can do for the vehicle is to keep up with the engine oil. The oil will help to keep the engine clean and parts lubricated. For the Explorer You should change the oil and the oil filter every 7,500 miles or so. Other important things You can do for the vehicle is to change other fluids, change the filters and change the spark plugs.

I have a 02 explorer xlt 4 liter and at 250,000 miles had the trans rebuilt. Still going good at 362,00 miles. I do use Lucas oil stabilizer and fuel additive religiously and hope the engine makes it to 400,000 miles. I live up north so like the Honda's I'm hoping the body makes it that long also.
