The 2003 Chevrolet Suburban has either A5.3 L V8, 6.0 L V8 or A8.1 L V8 engine that needS5W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil in all temperatures or 10W-30 in above 0 F temperatures. The capacity for the vehicle iS6 quarts with a filter for the 5.3 L V8 and 6.0 L V8 and 6.4 quarts with a filter for the 8.1 L V8 engine. The 5.3 L V8 and 6.0 L V8 have a torque of 18 ft/lbs for the drain plug and the 8.1 L V8 engine has a torque of 21 ft/lbs. Oil is essential because it helps to keep the engine clean and running. The oil and filter needs changed every so often because it goes bad after a while. For the Suburban You should do an oil change every 7,500 miles or so.

The owners manual suggests SAE 5w-30 or 10w-30. Doesn't say synthetic anywhere in the entire thing. Not even the newer suburbans require synthetic.
