The 2003 GMC Envoy uses SAE 5W-30 oil. GMC recommends that You use synthetic oil whenever You need to change it. There are two different types of oil that are common on the market these days, conventional and synthetic. Conventional is an older type of oil that is made with petroleum, and synthetic is more modern and engineered in a lab to give You better protection and longer oil life. The is means that You will only need to change it every 7,500 miles compared to 3,500 to 5,000 miles with conventional. I recommend that You check Your oil at least once a month to make sure that it is full and free from damage.
