The type of power steering fluid that should be used in the 2003 Mazda Tribute is MERCON V fluid. When You are putting the fluid in the vehicle You need to fill it to the maximum line on the reservoir. Power steering fluid helps transfer the power in Your steering system and helps You to turn the wheel more easily. The power steering fluid doesn't last forever so it needs to be changed after a while. In the Tribute the fluid should be changed every 30,000 to 60,000 miles or so. The cost of the fluid is anywhere from $5 to $15 per quart depending on the type. The cost to get it changed is between $80 and $100 in labor costs.
