The catalytic converter in a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 can be found just after the headers and before the main exhaust piping as the headers come down out of the bottom of the engine. This is a pretty common place to find a catalytic converter on any vehicle. The catalytic converter has the job of cleaning the exhaust fumes from Your engine to make them safer to be released out of Your exhaust into the environment. When one of these cats is failing it usually will give You a check engine light because one of Your O2 sensors will detect a fault in the emissions from the vehicle. Replacing a catalytic converter can get expensive because they have rare and precious metals in them to help remove the containments.
