The coolant temperature sensor of Your 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 monitors the coolant used in the engine and if it is not working, timing and performance will be affected. For most Ram trucks the ECT is found at the front of the intake manifold. This includes the 3.7L V-6 and the 4.7L V-8. On the 5.7L V-8, the ECT is installed on the front of the engine block. The 5.9L Diesel and the 5.9L V-8 Gas have the ECT placed near the thermostat housing. The coolant temperature sensor is a small 3 inch metal cylinder, with one threaded end. If it needs replacing You'll begin to notice rough idle, poor fuel economy, overheating and an illuminated "check engine" light.
