The transfer case control module on the 2004 Kia Sorento is a bit susceptible to failure, and it's not cheap to have replaced -- the average mechanic's cost hovers between $1,000 and $1,500. Fortunately, the part itself is only $300 to $400, and the location is very easily accessible. You'll find the TCCM under the passenger's front carpeting. Once You peel the carpeting up, look to the center console bracing; You'll find the module bolted there. It's attached with two connectors, and two 10mm bolts. It's a bit nearer to the front of the vehicle, so that gives You a good starting place to look. You can also look up images of the '04 Sorento's TCCM through most automotive retailers' websites, so this will give You a precise idea of what to look for.
