The 2005 Chevy Silverado's cooling fan relays can be located under hood next to the truck's main fuse box. 3 relays control GM cooling fans and they are housed in a separate box on the drivers side of the engine bay next to the large fuse compartment. Signs of failure include an absence of fan movement, engine overheating, la ack of cool air from the AC and both the "check engine" and temperature warning lights illumined. Relays can generally be purchased and repaired by the driver for less than $20 a piece. If repair is more extensive it may involve replacing a faulty thermostat or the fan's motor. Costs to replace the thermostat range from $175-$200 in parts and labor and costs to restore the fan motor ranges from $450-$500 in parts and labor.

The relays may be mounted above the rear curve of the driver side inner fender where rust holes commonly develop. The relay junction box has a open bottom and completely exposed to water and road debris. Inspect for severe corrosion of all contacts and the power bar prior to having problems.
