The EVAP canister, which is also referred to as the purge valve, can be found above the muffler of the 2005 Chevy Silverado. Locate the muffler and then, look towards the rear side. You should find the canister attached above the muffler. The EVAP canister works to absorb various vapors and impurities that are ejected from the fuel and then, hold on to these impurities until the purge valve can be opened to release them. This happens when the engine intake absorbs the fuel vapors from the charcoal in the EVAP canister via the intake manifold. A faulty EVAP canister can trigger the check engine light to turn on, but can also cause other issues that may prevent the car from functioning properly, lasting as long or in some cases, working altogether.
