The 2005 Ford F-250 with the 6.0 Powerstroke diesel engine is hungry, indeeed: It takes a whopping 15 quarts of oil to fill this up. Not only that, but You're going to want to change this at around 5k miles, even with a good synthetic. For the oil type, You're going to want to go with a 15W-40. While You can use a synthetic blend, going with a full synthetic, despite the cost, is Your best bet; it's still cheaper than replacing Your engine. The best reviewed oil for Your rig's going to be the Rotella T6 5W-40, if You're constricted by budget constraints, though. Don't forget that You should add a friction modifier with every oil change; a popular choice for treatment is the Archoil AR9100, to keep Your fuel injectors clean and purring.

Because your engine is not a 6 liter diesel engine or you believe your 5 gallon pail is one gallon, or you didn't allow for enough time for your d***y oil to drain. It's a good idea to run your engine till it's hot before draining your oil so it drains better, especially if it's your first oil change at 65,000 miles:)

If you only put one gallon of oil in your f250 then you didn't drain all the oil out of it for a complete oil change because it takes 15 quarts I just did it

My 2005 F250 6.0 diesel only took 1 gallon of oil during oil change. It still reads max on the dipstick. Why did it not need more??
