If the fuel pump on Your 2005 Mazda3 is failing or working intermittently, one of the first things You should check is the fuel pump relay. Not only is it much less expensive to replace, it's often the first point of failure. You'll find that more common than having a bad fuel pump is having a bad fuel pump relay; this can save You some diagnostic headaches and quite a bit of money. In order to locate the fuel pump relay, You'll need to look to the engine compartment. Specifically, the fuse and relay box is located on the far right side under the hood, to the right of the air intake. There, the fuel pump relay is labeled R6 -- if You don't have a diagram handy, it's usually the light blue relay near the bottom left of the fuse panel.
