The TCM in a 2005 Mazda3 can be found on the top of the transmission housing under a cover that is on it. There will be wires that are heading into the cover and that will let You know You've found the right spot. The TCM stands for transmission control module and what it does is it controls how Your automatic transmission works. It determines when the vehicle should shift to maximize power and reduce the wear and tear on the engine and the transmission. If Your TCM is starting to fail You may notice delayed shifts between gears, or a rough shifting feeling while You are driving.

I believe the 04-05 have an integrated ECM/TCM unit. The 06 and up should be separate and yes, TCM is located on the trans under the battery box.
Tengo un mazda2004 y no tiene el módulo en la parte superior, supongo que es un ECM integrado
