The vehicle speed sensor (VSS) on a 2005 Nissan Murano is near the tail shaft at the right rear point of the transmission. It is easiest accessed by using a 1/4" ratchet with A4" extension to remove the 10mm bolts. You'll need to either jack the vehicle up or use car Ramps. Always make sure You do this with the vehicle parked on a level surface. The average cost to have this part replaced by a mechanic is $270 to $360, including labor. In most cases, the check engine light will come on when the VSS is failing. When scanned, it will generally return a few common fault codes, including P0720, P0703, P0717, P0730, or P0740. Common symptoms of a failing speed sensor in the Murano include cruise control not working, harsh shifting, and banging sound from the engine compartment when vehicle is put in reverse or drive.
