On both the AW50AWD and the AW55-50SN automatic transmissions in the 2005 Volvo XC90, the total fill capacity iS7.6 quarts. It's recommended that You use an automatic transmission fluid meeting the DEXRON-III or DEXRON-VI standard. The change interval is every 30,000 to 50,000 miles, depending largely on usage, but it's also important to check levels between changes. The transmission is one of the most expensive components to replace on an XC90 (and most other vehicles as well). Therefore, it's important that You take precious care of it. Low or broken down transmission fluid is a leading cause of an overheating transmission, which I don't need to tell You is bad news.
