The cabin air filter in the 2006 Chevy Malibu is located behind the glovebox. It is accessed and changed from within the passenger cabin. When it's time to change the filter, access the gloveboxBy opening the passenger door. Open the gloveboxAnd locate the damper cord on the right side of the compartment. Unhook that cord. Release the stops by pushing on the right and left sides of the glovebox. Behind the compartment is a light connector. Detach it, and this will allow the glovebox to hang towards the floor. You'll be able to see the housing cover for the cabin air filter now. Disconnect the latch at the top of the cover to remove it. Pull out the old filter and insert a new one, making sure the air flow indicator is pointing downward. Replace the cover and connect the gloveboxBack as it was before.

It most certainly does have one. Chevy never put one in because it's a split year thing. Most of the parts books list one

There is an access door for a cabin air filter behind the glovebox, The car didn't come from the factory with a filter installed, but there is access to install one.

Incorrect, but correct. The 2006 Malibu does not have a cabin air filter, but it has a cover to install one where previously said. It may accepta newer model filter if it's not stocked for 2006.(I just checked on mine)
