The 2007 Volvo S40 2.4 liter engine uses SAE 5w-30 fully synthetic motor oil. With an oil capacity of 5.5 quarts, You can expect to need between 4 and 5 one-quart bottles if You need to do an oil replacement. You will need to pay between $2.99 and $13.45 per bottle. It can be purchased at most big box retail locations, all automotive stores, and at several trusted online dealers. To replace the oil, You will first need to ensure the older fluid has been fully drained from the nozzle located at the bottom side of the reservoir. Next, unscrew the cap that covers the opening on top. Using a funnel, carefully pour the new oil into the tank, until it reaches the max fill line. Now, return the cap and close the hood.

That is not true about synthetic oil having to be used in the engine of the s40 in the manufacture guide they used normal Castro 5w30 motor oil so it is only an option not mandatory
