The 2007 Volkswagen GTI has a 2.0 L 4Cylinder engine that needs SAE 5W-40 MS Synthetic European Motor Oil. The capacity for the car iS4.9 quarts with a filter and the torque for the drain plug is 22 ft/lbs. What 5W-40 means iS5 is the viscosity or the thickness of the oil at startup, W is for winter and 40 is the thickness or the viscosity when the car is at operating speeds. You shouldn't leave the oil in the GTI too long because it goes bad after a certain point. It should be changed every 10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever comes first. The cost of a change if taken to a mechanic is anywhere from $40 to $60 in labor costs.
