Castrol is the recommended brand to use in the 2009 BMW 323i. Use an oil with a SAE viscosity rating of 0W-40, 0W-30, 5W-40 or 5W-30. The oil you choose should meet at least one of these specifications: BMW Longlife-01, BMW Longlife-01 FE or BMW Longlife-04. The 323i has an electronic oil-level monitor which you can use to have the oil level displayed in the iDrive display. Dont rely on this as an alternative to manually checking the oil level. Visually inspect the oil level every time you put gas in the tank. Proper engine oil levels are important for proper engine performance and routine oil changes will ensure a long life.
