The 2009 Ford Explorer cabin air filter can be found behind the glove box. You will need to completely remove the glove compartment and then open a plastic trim piece behind it to access where the cabin air filter is located. The filter that comes standard on Your SUV is made of paper and does a good job of filtering out dust and large particles. If You are looking for something that can catch more of the allergens then I recommend upgrading to a HEPA rated filter. There are also filters that are on the market that have scents in them. This can help Your car stay smelling fresh for longer.

There is no air cabin filter in my 2009 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer Edition V6 4.0. I've removed the glove box---no filter. Also, there is no reference to a cabin filter in my owners manual.
