The recommended transmission fluid on the 2010 Chevy Aveo is T-IV Automatic Transmission Fluid. Some of the products that You can use are Valvoline Full Synthetic Transmission Fluid Multi-Vehicle or Beck/Arnley Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid T-IV. The main function of the transmission fluid on Your vehicle is to protect the transmission. It protects the transmission by lubricating it and its parts so that it lasts a long time. It not only lubricates but also prevents overheating which can cause a lot of damage if it does happen. It also cleans and conditions its gaskets so that You don't have dry or cracked gaskets down the road. Make sure to check Your fluid level at least once a week so that You don't run too low on it.

Per page 7-11 of the 2010 Aveo owners manual type iv (type 4) ATF GM part # 88900925 is recommended. Type vi (type 6) and Universal ATF are the wrong viscosity and are mistakenly recommended on multiple wed sites. Toyota, AC Delco, and others make type 4 ATF.
