The manufacturer's specification for the 2010 Ford F-150's brake fluid type is DOT 3, though it's possible to use DOT 4 as well. The chief difference between the two is the boiling point; DOT 4 boils at a higher temperature than DOT 3, occasionally making it the right choice. In practice, though You won't reach those temperatures, so You won't reap any of the benefits. Another thing to mention is that DOT 3 is less expensive than DOT 4, sometimes significantly. If You're not getting any additional benefits from the upgrade, why bother I'd recommend sticking with the manufacturer's specification -- which to be clear is DOT 3 -- instead of going for a useless upgrade that will just take money out of Your pocket.
