The 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 with the 5.7L V8 uses SAE 5W-20 oil in the engine. Dodge does recommend that whenever You need to change it You use synthetic oil. The two types of oil that are very commonplace these days are synthetic and conventional. Synthetic is a newer type of oil that is engineered to give You greater wear protection and longer life than the standard petroleum-based conventional option. This means that You can usually go 7,500 miles between changes with synthetic compared to 3,500 to 5,000 miles with conventional. I recommend that You inspect Your oil at least once a month. When You do this You should check to make sure that it is properly filled and free from any debris or damage.
