Every vehicle manufactured after 1996 is equipped with an OBD2 or an "Onboard Diagnostics II" system that allows a compatible scanner to connect to the car's computer. Engine and operating malfunctions are recorded through a series of universal codes generated by the computer. These codes are in turn read by an OBD2 compatible scanner once connected to Your vehicle. The 2011 Nissan Rogue is equipped with an OBD2 port above the brake pedal. The port can be located on the drivers side of the cabin to the left of the steering wheel and under the dash panel. To use simply plug the scanner into the exposed outlet to record the Rogue's trouble codes.
